Classics FC reach KO semi-finals for first time PDF Print E-mail
Classics FC made club history when they reached the semi-final stage of the Futsal Knock Out competition after beating Melita Sports following a determined first half performance. Classics FC will however have a tough task to progress further, as they now play Division III champions Todos FC on Friday.

With memories of the playoff loss against Riviera FC still vivid, Classics FC went into the game determined to progress in this competition. The team piled on the pressure, coming close on a number of occasions thanks to T. Fenech and P. Azzopardi. Melita were unlucky to succumb to Classics’ first goal when a G. Galea shot was deflected by T. Fenech into the net. The second goal came a few minutes later when a fine solo run by M. Muscat left T. Fenech with an easy chance to score his eighth goal of the season. M. Muscat also got on the score-sheet when he slotted in after nice work from N. Farrugia Cann.

The second half saw Classics FC attempt to control the tempo of the match, but Melita’s reaction was adamant and two direct free-kicks allowed them back in the game. Despite a frantic last few minutes, Classics FC held on to their one goal lead and will now face Todos FC - who beat fellow section opponents Mellieha Bobs 9-7 after the penalty shoot-outs - in their first ever Knock Out semi-final on Friday 21 May at 9.15pm, Ghajn Dwieli.
