Classics maintain perfect start
Classics FC notched up their second successive win of the campaign when they beat New Team FC 2-1.  Following their 4-2 victory over Sliema Futsal, Classics FC were looking for another positive result and a disciplined performance allowed them to maintain their 100 per cent record for the 2009/2010 season.

The match got off to a furious start with Classics FC captain Patrick Azzopardi scoring his side’s first goal directly from a free-kick within the first minute.  Following the goal however, the tempo dropped slightly with both teams working the ball well, patiently trying to open each other’s defenses.  Midway through the first half, a moment of individual brilliance saw Marco Muscat double Classics’ lead with a toe-poke into the far corner after having gone past his marker.  The first half petered out with both teams cancelling each other out.

The second half continued in the same tight fashion with which the first half had ended. However, with 10 minutes in, an innocuous long-range shot was deflected past Classics’ keeper Chris Magri to halve the deficit, setting up a tense finale.  A disciplined and hard-working performance in the latter stages of the game saw Classics FC hold on to their lead and give coach Steve Mallia his second win in as many games.

Classics will look to continue their fine form in their third league match of the season against B’Kara St Joseph on November 18 in Mqabba.
