Signs that Classics FC would have an off day emerged after a few minutes, when an erroneous back-pass to the keeper led to an indirect freekick. Red Marleys took this golden opportunity to open the scoring.

M. Muscat managed to equalise through a fine solo effort, but this moment was short lived as another mistake at the back led to a quick counter-attack by Red Marleys, who scored their second goal of the night through a nicely taken back-heel off a pass from the left.

In the second half Classics FC piled on the pressure, but attacks were somewhat chaotic and left space for Red Marleys’ counter-attacks that were foiled by good defending by D. Mifsud and a number of saves by S. Lazze’ in goal.

Classics FC will attempt to make amends when they next play section leaders Mellieha Bobs on Friday 18 December at the Ghajn Dwieli pitch.
