| Fenech bags hat-trick in fifth Classics FC victory |
|
Classics FC won last Friday’s match against St Helen Band Club 4-3 thanks to a hat-trick by T. Fenech and another goal by team captain P. Azzopardi. Both players have already scored four goals each this season.
It was SHBC who first went close to opening to score with two similar chances created on the right hand flank, but both shots went desperately wide. In another occasion, S. Lazze had to be at his best to deny SHBC from scoring off a free-kick. Classics FC also had an opportunity to forge ahead thanks to an Azzopardi shot which was parried by the SHBC keeper. A few minutes later Azzopardi made amends to open the scoring following a nippy one-two move with N. Farrugia. Fenech doubled the lead soon after from a quickly taken corner by M. Muscat, seconds after coming off the bench. However, SHBC immediately got a goal back to stay in the game and attempt a comeback in the second half. Soon after the start of the half time period, with Classics FC coach S. Mallia making a number of changes, Fenech grabbed another goal following a Muscat corner which was feebly intercepted by the SHBC keeper. Fenech’s hat-trick was completed a few minutes later after a fine turn and quickly taken shot which left the SHBC keeper with no chance. With the result seemingly beyond contention, both teams hit the post before SHBC finally got one back to reduce the goal deficit to two. In the last action of the match, SHBC got another goal but it was too late and the game ended soon after. CFC, now sole leaders with 15 points from 6 games, will next play second-placed team Todos on Friday 22 January at the Ghajn Dwieli pitch. Click here to view the full table standings. |
