The local futsal scene has gone from strength to strength in recent years, with its popularity rising so much that it required the Malta Football Association to set up as many as four Divisions, with almost 80 teams taking part each year in the official competitions.

Besides the ten teams in the First Division, twelve in the Second, fourteen in the Third, and 39 teams in the Fourth Division, one should also keep in mind the numerous other teams around the islands which play 5-a-side futsal – whether on a regular or on an occasional basis – without being registered with the MFA.

Read more about the development of this game in the page entitled “History of Futsal in Malta”.

Should you wish to discover more about the game itself, learn how it differs from the traditional football and see why many consider it as a different sport altogether, you can browse through the “Rules and Regulations” page.

You can also consult the information on how to “Register a New Team or Players” if you have been enticed to participate in the official MFA Futsal League.

Other useful pages are the 5-a-side Pitches, with contact details of most of the futsal pitches in Malta, as well as the Tournaments page, if you are only after that occasional competition.
