Classics FC ended on the losing end when playing against home team Paola Stars at the Corradino Pavilion, a loss which will require them to rediscover the fighting spirit they had expressed in previous games and which saw them obtain a string of positive results if they are to entertain any promotion aspirations. Classics started the game on Thursday with a solid defence, but Paola Stars managed to break the deadlock midway through the first half in what until then had been a relatively quiet game. Having their keeper Chris Magri to thank for some fine saves which kept the deficit to a minimum, Classics forced their way back in the game thanks to skipper Patrick Azzopardi shortly after the break. However, a mistake at the back paved the way for Paola Stars to retake the lead. They then score a third goal while Classics were still trying to recover their feet and yet another one on the counter attack as Classics were pushing on at the front. The final scoreline read 4-1 and marked an unlucky debut for Classics’ new kits following the sponsorship deal sealed with Citadel Insurance plc, which joins the Beer Garden - Sun in Splendour Pub as the two main sponsors for the team. Classics’ next official commitment is against AC Trampi on March 11, 2011, when the red-and-blues will seek to return to winning ways. |
