Heading into their coming game against Head Hunters conscious of the fact that a win would place them in a good position to end their promotion hunt in glory, Classics FC will be comforted by the convincing performance that saw them beat New Team FC by seven goals to four on Tuesday. Yau-Mun Law was the first to put his name on the score sheet when he pounced on the ball to send it in the back of the net after the New Team custodian had parried Patrick Azzopardi’s free-kick. Joseph Darmanin added another soon after following some fine work by Marco Muscat. Although New Team then managed to pull one back, the game turned sour for them when they had a player sent off for unsporting behaviour and Classics took advantage of the man-up situation to extend their lead through Yau-Mun Law. New Team were not disheartened and scored their second after a swift counter-attack, but before the break Classics again re-established their two goal lead thanks to Patrick Azzopardi, who slotted home after a quickly-taken corner, with the score thus reading 4-2. The second half commenced well for Classics as they scored through Joseph Darmanin, but they had to keep sweating after New Team converted a penalty to cut the deficit once again. Another two goals by Yau-Mun Law and Patrick Azzopardi - who thus got their hat-trick and brace respectively – almost put the game beyond doubt, but they were reminded they should keep their concentration high until the last second after they missed a clear chance with two players against the keeper and New Team reversed the situation to score their fourth goal. The game had no more drama to produce, and the referee’s final whistle drew the curtains with the result reading 7-4 for Classics. The team will now be looking ahead to prepare its coming game against Head Hunters on May 19, which will be decisive for their aspirations.
