Born from a dream and officially set up in 2005, Classics Futsal Club has come a long way since the idea was first conceived in 1998 by a group of schoolmates.

Classics FC was initially formed to allow its members to practise their favourite sport and take a break from their studies. However, the team has gone beyond that and nowadays represents a social vehicle whereby ex-schoolmates, now working at different companies in different areas, together with new friends, can keep contact whilst at the same time practising sports in an organised and competitive environment.

The Pre-Futsal period

The idea of forming a 5-a-side team originated way back in 1998, while still at Sixth Form. Spearheaded by the current Club President Edward Costa, the intention was to set up a team in order to participate in one-day tournaments. The other founding members were Kevin Farrugia, Daniel Mifsud, Chris Meilak, and Alan Arrigo, while other team members included Neville Farrugia Cann, Trevor Fenech (both re-joined Classics FC in 2009 following spells with Birzebbugia St. Peter’s and Naxxar Lions respectively), Mark Bezzina and Andrew Bonnici. The first kit colours were blue and red, and though the kit has been replaced, the club colours remain intact.

The first few tournaments brought disappointing results, and consequently interest and motivation started to dwindle. Nevertheless, at a time when the team seemed to be dismantling, the team registered its first tournament win. This proved to be the turning point since it was followed by another three finals, of which one proved victorious. It also supplied the necessary boost to all team members and paved the way for the eventual setting up of Classics Futsal Club with a view to participating in the official MFA Futsal League.
